About James Cook University Australia, Singapore Campus

James Cook University is Australia’s leading tropical research university with campuses located in Singapore, Townsville, Cairns, and Brisbane.

The Singapore Campus is the first offshore campus of the university. It was established in 2003 as part the universities expressed intent of internationalizing its activities and in pursuit of its vision of “Providing a better life for people in the tropics”. The Singapore campus is a full campus of James Cook University Australia and the programs offered follow the same curriculum as the Australian versions but are contextualized to the Asian environment. This ensures high quality while at the same time maintaining a local relevance. Courses are offered at the pre-university, undergraduate and post graduate levels as follows:

English language preparatory programs (4 levels designed to improve student’s English to the level required for University undergraduate or post graduate degrees)

Foundation program (an eight month university preparation program for students who are unable to meet our normal entrance requirements)

Undergraduate programs in psychology, business, marketing, tourism, information technology, and environmental science

Post graduate programs in psychology, guidance and counselling, business, and information technology

Doctorate program in psychology

Student enrolment has grown rapidly from 50 to approximately 1500. The campus is truly multi cultural with students from across Asia, in particular China, India and Vietnam. Additionally study abroad students enrol from Europe and the United States.

The campus provides students with access to a full range of facilities and services to support their learning.

Facilities include lecture and seminar rooms, a fully equipped library, computer laboratories, an onsite bistro and access to a variety of sporting facilities.

All students are provided with a free laptop on enrolment to ensure easy access to our electronic learning aids and the campus is fully “wired” enabling student to connect anywhere anytime.

The university is fully accredited by Singapore government. All courses are approved by Ministry of Education and operations are governed by Case Trust.

In 2008, we achieved the Singapore Quality Class for Private Education Organizations accreditation and are still the only stand alone Australian University who has done so. The campus differs from the majority of other local providers in that we are a true campus of James Cook University Australia. This provides the opportunity for international and local students to earn a “real” Australian degree without leaving Singapore.
